The Suspenderet Stal is a museum extension to the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in central Copenhagen, designed to showcase rotating exhibitions of contemporary art. While remaining part of the same institutional body, the addition establishes a deliberate modern counterpoint to the classical museum and its collection. Elevated in section, the expansion minimizes its footprint and becomes an object that can be observed in the round. An elevation view reveals the relationship between the colonnade of the Suspenderet Stal and the columned facade of the Glyptoteket. The borrowed language is used to frame the existing sculpture garden, define circulation, and structure views. The Suspenderet Stal was conceived as both content and container – an object that actively participates in the exhibition of the contemporary art it houses.
