Constructed of an arena, a scanner, and a series of performances, The Common Presents encouraged visitors to alternate between the roles of spectator and player, artist and artwork.
During the two-week exhibition, the public was able to freely use the 6ft x 4ft scanner. A curation of the images created were printed out to scale, and filled the gallery. The Common – the plywood seating structure surrounding the scanner – served as an arena for community: dancing and DJing, acapella and jazz. Rather than solely crafting spectatorship, close attention was paid to the imprints that audiences left in their interaction with The Common Presents .
